Khadevis Robinson and Anne Merrem Named as Doherty Fellows to Conduct Research at LA84 Foundation Sports Library

Los Angeles, January 11, 2008 - Khadevis Robinson and Anne Merrem have been selected as Ken Doherty Memorial Fellowship recipients.

Named for former decathlon champion, coach, meet director and writer Ken Doherty, the fellowship is given annually by USA Track & Field to provide researchers with the time and resources to pursue the serious study of track and field, and to honor the man after whom it is named.

Robinson and Merrem will collaborate on a project titled, "Performance Enhancing Drugs and the Clean Athlete: Damned If You Do and Damned If You Don't?", which will examine the impact of drug use by high-profile track and field athletes on the performance and values of athletes who do not use drugs.

Robinson, who holds a masters degree in public administration, is a middle-distance runner who represented the United States at the Athens Olympic Games and eight world championships. He is a four-time U.S. outdoor national champion at 800 meters, most recently in 2007. Merrem, a graduate of Albert Ludwigs Universitaet Freiburg, has a master's degree in education. She is a coach specializing in mental fitness and high performance. Merrem has worked with a wide range of athletes, ranging from children to world-class competitors.

The Doherty Fellowship will defray the Fellow's research costs at the National Track & Field Research Collection at the LA84 Foundation Sports Library. The fellowship includes workspace at the Foundation, reference assistance, access to commercial databases and the Internet, and full use of the National Track & Field Research Collection and related library collections.

The LA84 Foundation is endowed with Southern California's share of the surplus from the 1984 Olympic Games. The Foundation awards grants to youth sports organizations, initiates its own youth sports programs and manages the premier sports library in the world.
