The following sites are sources of sport information that we find particularly helpful when answering reference questions. Sports Research and Information Australian Society for Sports History - Dedicated to studying Sports History with special emphasis on Australia. Ballparks.com - A prime original resource for information on ballparks and stadiums. The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum - The Baseball Hall of Fame is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of baseball. The library's purpose is to collect, organize, preserve and present the written, visual and oral history of baseball. There are extensive film, video, photo and audio collections. Information on research and references services. Basketball Hall of Fame - The online home of the Basketball Hall of Fame. British Society for Sport History - The web site of the BSSH provides helpful bibliographic information and indices on sport history with a special emphasis on sport in Great Britain. College Football Hall of Fame - The online home of the College Football Hall of Fame. Contact information provided. European Committee for Sports History - The European Committee for Sports History aims to coordinate historical research projects in the field of sport in Europe, implement and facilitate exchanges between historians, and to found a network for information and ideas regarding the history of sport. The German Sports School of Cologne - If you can read German, this site provides a good guide to sport library, research and archive resources. H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports - A recognized research center within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education and the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin. The research library promote scholarly research in the field of kinesiology. International Sports Heritage Association - ISHA is a non-profit membership organization incorporated in 1971 to assist sport museums and halls of fame to develop, operate and promote their facilities in the best way possible. ISHA includes more than 130 members from countries such as China, Belgium, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia, Canada, and the United States. ISCPES International Society for Comparitive Physical Education and Sport - ISCPES is a research and educational organization that supports and provides assistance to those seeking to initiate and strengthen research and teaching programs in comparative physical education and sport throughout the world. The Library of Congress - The web site of the U.S. Library of Congress is a vast resource of information, research guides, reference services, bibliographies, databases and exhibits. The Library of Congress is a universal collection dedicated to serving Congress and the American people. National Sport Information Center of Australia - The NSIC is the library and information center of the Australian Sports Commission. Aside from offering an impressive array of library services, the NSIC also maintains the Australian Sport web site which is a comprehensive resource on Australian sport and fitness. Important links to 2000 Sydney Games information. National Collegiate Athletic Association - The NCAA is the primary governing body for collegiate sports in the United States. Resources on the site include the NCAA News, databases, reference, a sport library, statistics, eligibility information and championship results. North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) - An academic organization committed to the preservation and teaching of the history of sport, exercise and physical activity. Open Directory Project - The sports subject index of the Web's leading comprehensive index. Professional Football Hall of Fame - The online home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sport Information Resource Center (SIRC) - The Sport Information Resource Center identifies, collects, organizes and disseminates information about sports, fitness and related fields. Publishers of several sports research products. An excellent directory of sport research sources. The Sport Journal - An electronic journal publication of the United States Sports Academy. Sportcal - Sportcal online is a comprehensive database calendar of international sporting events. The public area gives calendar, ticket and travel details for all sporting events held in any upcoming three-month period. The Business and Research areas are available through subscription. Sporting Goods Manufacturers' Association - The site provides a wealth of information on the sporting goods industry including features and news on sports participation and trends, manufacturer information, legislation and product information. The Sporting News Archives - The electronic archives of The Sporting News, America's leading sports weekly for over 100 years. The online archives feature several historical exhibits with an emphasis on baseball. Includes reference and research policies and services. Sportslink - A directory of not-for-profit/non-commercial/non-consumer links, of both national and international organizations. The links are for coaches, trainers, researchers, educators, psychologists, the athletic medical community and competitors. Sports Philatelists International - Sports and Olympic stamp collectors. United States Sports Academy - The academy is a private, nonprofit graduate school that offers sport-specific programs. Links to library information and on-line resources as well the academy's newsletter. Women's Sports Foundation - The Women's Sports Foundation is a national nonprofit, educational, member-based organization dedicated to promoting the lifelong participation of all girls and women in sports and fitness. The site includes information on the foundation and its programs; publications and reports; and information dedicated to improving the health and fitness of women and girls.

Australian Archives Melbourne 1956 Fact Sheet - This set of pages from the Australian Archives provides helpful information and a number of digitized planning documents from the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Game. Australian Centre for Olympic Studies - Established in Sydney, Australia in 1996, this academic research and teaching center (formerly at the University of New South Wales, now at the University of Technology, Sydney) specializes in subjects relating to the 2000 Sydney Games. Australian Sports Commission - Resources related to sport in Australia and the work of the Australian Sports Commission. International Center for Olympic Studies - The center publishes the journal Olympika: The International Journal of Olympic Studies and operates a research facility at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. International Olympic Academy - A multicultural interdisciplinary centre based in Olympia, Greece with the goals of studying, enriching and promoting Olympism.
International Society of Olympic Historians - Formed in 1991, the International Society of Olympic Historians promotes the study of the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games by gathering historical materials and publishing Olympic research in the Journal of Olympic History. Olympic Documentation Highway - The online home of the Centre for Olympic Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The center is committed to the academic and scientific research of Olympism and Olympic sport with a focus on the humanities and social sciences. The site includes listings of the Centre's publications, reference services, symposia, and an international directory of Olympic researchers and documentation centers. Routledge Online Studies resources on the Olympic and Paralympic Games (ROSO) - A learning resource, publishing scholarly and multidisciplinary research on the Olympic and Paralympic Games. United States Olympic Committee (USOC) - USOC Online is a multifaceted site offering current Olympic sport news highlights, a comprehensive directory of U.S. Olympic sport organizations and international sports federations, information on the USOC, publication excerpts, individual sport information, a kid's court and an online store. |
