mexico55_1.jpg (27141 bytes) II Pan American Games
Mexico City
March 12 – 26, 1955

A second poster shows an indigenous Mexican of the pre-Cortesian era in a kneeling stance shooting an arrow skyward into infinity as a symbol of peace and universal friendship in the New World. A partial image of the globe showing most of the Americas, emphasizing Mexico and Central America, is in the background behind the archer. The arc edge of the globe serves as the archer’s bow. His arrow and hand intertwine with the countries of Central America. Rueda-Tapia created this poster under the auspices of the Mexican Tourist Bureau. The poster was issued in a run of 7,000 copies, 5,000 in Spanish and 2,000 in English, by S. Turanzes del Valle Talleres Lito-Tipograficos sometime in 1954. The poster was intended for widespread distribution to commercial and cultural institutions as well as Mexican sports clubs and federations.
